Jonathan in Concert & Blanket Exercise – Toronto, ON

September 12 @ 12:00 pm 3:00 pm

The Cathedral Church of St. James in Toronto invites you to join them for an afternoon of food, fellowship, songs and a history lesson through the Blanket Exercise with Jonathan Maracle.

The Blanket Exercise is an interactive history lesson, it’s a history many of us were not taught growing up. It’s the story of how we went from a time when Indigenous people used all the land we now call Canada to a reality in which reservations today (below the 60th parallel) make up less than one half of one percent of our country’s landmass. The Blanket Exercise has been around for over twenty years, and is now often taught in public schools. It was created by a group of indigenous elders, educators and allies in response to the 1996 Royal Commission of Aboriginal Peoples. The Blanket Exercise is constantly being updated and is now in its 6th Edition. The Canadian ecumenical organization KAIROS is responsible for the Blanket Exercise’s care and continuing development.
