SUMMARY:Jonathan in Concert & Blanket Exercise – Etobiocoke\, ON
DESCRIPTION:Kingsview Free Methodist Church in Etobiocoke\, Ontario invite you to join them for a Sunday morning of songs and stories with Jonathan Maracle\, and then to stay for a Blanket Exercise in the afternoon! \n\n\n\nThe Blanket Exercise is an interactive history lesson\, it’s a history many of us were not taught growing up. It’s the story of how we went from a time when Indigenous people used all the land we now call Canada to a reality in which reservations today (below the 60th parallel) make up less than one half of one percent of our country’s landmass. The Blanket Exercise has been around for over twenty years\, and is now often taught in public schools. It was created by a group of indigenous elders\, educators and allies in response to the 1996 Royal Commission of Aboriginal Peoples. The Blanket Exercise is constantly being updated and is now in its 6th Edition. The Canadian ecumenical organization KAIROS is responsible for the Blanket Exercise’s care and continuing development.

SUMMARY:Broken Walls & Carry the Cure – Yakutat\, AK
DESCRIPTION:Yakutat School Assembly 2:15pm \n\n\n\nYakutat Community Concert 7:00pm \n\n\n\nThere is an epidemic of depression and suicide that is threatening to wipe out Alaskan youth and Natives. Just as mushers raced to carry the serum to those villages in Western Alaska\, Carry The Cure (CTC) races to carry a message of life\, hope and love to save youth and others from acts of self harm. Each year CTC partners with Missionary Aviation Repair Center (MARC) which provides planes and pilots to help us visit villages along the Iditarod Trail and Serum Trail to carry this urgent message of hope. In each village we present our “committed to life” suicide prevention school assembly. Then\, in the evening\, Broken Walls hosts a community concert. As Broken Walls\, we enthusiastically share our own music and message to offer hope\, restoration and unity to Indigenous people throughout the world. Learn more HERE.
