Jonathan recently travelled to Kamloops. When he first arrived in the city, he visited the site of the Kamloops Indian Residential School which was a very moving experience. Later, he performed an evening concert at the Kamloops Centennial Chapel. For the concert, family gathered from miles around. Jonathan was welcomed with protocol and was able to re-connect with many old friends as well as make new ones.
He welcomed everyone to the evening concert with the drum song, River of Life. During the evening, a residential school survivor, Elder Annie Cook shared her story with everyone through tears. Her strength and resolve to share her story was very challenging for us as we listened. Taking the time to listen is important. Healing can take place in those special moments.
Jonathan shared again the following morning at the Kamloops Free Methodist Chapel, followed by teaching through the Blanket Exercise.
