Broken Walls joined with Carry the Cure for a trip to Hydaburg and Ketchikan, Alaska from November 16th to 20th. Hydaburg is the southern-most city on Prince of Wales Island and Ketchikan is in the Tongass Rainforest in southern Alaska. Our team consisted of Jonathan Maracle, Bill Pagaran, Jaymi Millard and Carol Sullivan.
Our first night in Hydaburg was a night of protocol to bless the elders and leaders of the community who represent the generations of the village. We honoured them with gifts, our words and songs. We even did a friendship dance.
The next day, Bill led a ‘Committed to Life’ school assembly, followed by the whole team presenting an evening concert for the community. We had a wonderful time of sharing the love and hope with the beautiful people of Hydaburg. We had a very special time of cultural exchange and our expectations were exceeded. God moved powerfully and when Bill gave the invitation, 75 people responded to the Gospel.
Our team then travelled to Ketchikan for a concert at Soul Harvest Cafe. The place was packed. We were hosted by Vicki and Paul of Soul Harvest who are people of vision and have a heart for their community. We shared our songs, both old and new and it was amazing to hear almost everyone sing along.
The next morning, we led the service at South Tongass Alliance Church where our message was well received. On our last day in Alaska, Bill present a school assembly and we presented a community concert in the evening.
Jonathan shares: ” It was a wonderful trip to Hydaburg and Ketchikan. In our school assemblies, the young people were engaged from beginning to end. Bill and I also did a commercial at the local radio station for the concert. We had many people come to us after the concert to say that it was an experience they will never forget. “
Bill shares: “I am hearing amazing things about our time in Hydaburg. A friend of mine shared that Hydaburg has been rocked in a major way and it is no longer the same. The local drug dealer closed his doors and is getting right with God. There have been major shifts in families and attitudes. Thank you for your continued support as we try to reach every village in Alaska with His love!”
