Broken Walls participated in events to honour the memory of the Dakota 38. The events were held on May 25th to 27th, 2017.
The Dakota Honoring was a beautiful event to be part of. The focus of everything that took place was based on love and hope for the future. We heard so much wisdom from many Elders and leaders who were willing to set aside their fears and doubts in order to build relationship with one another. The people were willing to hear one another’s stories; and to step across the barriers that have divided them for so long. Much has been given and sacrificed in order to bring this movement to life. We were so honoured to be part of this historical event.
At the beginning of the Dakota Honoring, we were blessed with a beautiful ceremony led by Gabriel Ward. Also several Elders prayed and shared words of love and wisdom. It was a very restorative time. One of the speakers was Peter Lengeek who told moving stories about growing up with a Dakota mother and a Dutch father.
We did a benefit concert for the Dakota Riders of the Mankato 38. It was an amazing night. The people danced and sang with us with great enthusiasm. It is wonderful to see the church joining together with a common goal to see the love of God bring hope and change; and to see the horrible sins of the past broken and forgiveness bring the healing so desperately needed.
This is the beginning of reconciliation. The Elders claimed that they have never felt so loved and honoured.
Blessings to you all and thank you for your continued prayers for our team and our families.
