Jonathan in Grande Prairie, Alberta
Tuesday, November 20, 2012
Jonathan returned on Sunday, November 18th from a Caregivers’ Conference in Grande Prairie, Alberta that was hosted by the Northwest Alberta Child and Family Services Authority. He was honoured to be invited as one of the speakers for the youth and to offer a performance to the general gathering of their conference.
Jonathan and his son, Ahweks (Eagle in Mohawk) had a wonderful time in Grande Prairie. They did a presentation for the youth and then later for the whole gathering after the banquet in the evening. Jonathan was able to share with the young people that they should take on the challenges of life like the eagles who flies into the storm.
The main concert was attended by Native Elders, program organizers, foster parents, other presenters and a group of young people. Jonathan shared about many of the difficulties faced by First Nations people and the importance of understanding that they come from a different world view. Later, elders came to them because they needed hugs and others shared about how Broken Walls has encouraged them over the years. This is definitely a place where Jonathan and Broken Walls need to return.
