Jonathan in Fort Hope, Ontario
Tuesday, November 20, 2012
Jonathan, Pastor Kevin Dowling and Tom DeHaan went to Fort Hope from November 12th to the 14th, 2012. One of their first stops was to the radio station where they greeted the community. They talked about the importance of each person respecting themselves and each other. Jonathan shares: “I shared with them that we all need to take the focus off ourselves and focus instead on the needs of others.” He also emphasized the need for forgiveness. Carrying anger only chains us to our past and keeps us from moving forward. The team spoke over the radio for 2 mornings and gave an opportunity for salvation. During that time, people called into the radio station.
Another place that they visited was the detox facility. Jonathan gave a small concert and the team shared their testimonies. They gave examples of healing as well as words of encouragement to the 12 young people in the facility.
Jonathan, Kevin and Tom spent time with their friends, Joe and Ann who pastor in the community, listening to them share their vision and hope for their beautiful community. It was a great to have a chance to encourage them and be a part of their wonderful family.
Just as they were about to depart, an OPP officer came to talk to them. The officer said: “The songs and the message that you share was a good thing for the community.” It is nice to hear these words of encouragement for what we do as we go into our First Nations communities. The trip was short but a fruitful one and they hope to return again soon.
